By creating and nurturing strong, positive relationships with children and their families, teachers help children build the social–emotional skills that are foundational to their success in school and in life.

At the beginning of the year, as you start to learn about the children in your class and build relationships with them, you can lay the foundation for a positive classroom community by considering six core questions.

With this guide, you will find

  • six questions that can lay the foundation for a positive classroom community;
  • activities that reinforce each question, with guidance for in-person and distance learning; and
  • ways for families to reinforce the positive classroom community at home.
